Allambie Heights Public School has a highly successful and popular Band Program. There are currently two bands, a Training Band and a Concert
Band. Membership of each band is determined by musical experience and
ability, not by seniority in school years.
Both bands are under the musical
direction of a qualified conductor or Band Director, currently Megan Lipworth. Administration of the Band Program is carried out by a Band Committee which is a subcommittee of the school's P&C Association.
The aim of the Band Program is to provide musical enrichment through the
playing of an instrument in one of the school bands. At the same time, the
programme aims to achieve a high performance standard and to encourage
the development of teamwork in a happy atmosphere.
By participating in the Band Program children will be able to achieve the
following outcomes:
- a level of proficiency in playing a musical instrument
- confidence and self-esteem by performing in public
- competence in working in a group
- an enjoyment of music.
Through providing the Band Program, outcomes for the school are:
- an enhancement of the school’s reputation
- an enrichment of the school’s curriculum.
The Band program is open to children from year 3 onwards. Hiring of instruments and tuition rates are most reasonable. Children involved in the Band Program have opportunities to perform at the:
- Annual School Concert
- Annual School Fun Fair
- School Assemblies
- Honour Assemblies
- Band Festivals/Competitions
A highlight of the band program is the Band Camp which is held over a weekend in March each year. During this time, band members are involved in band rehearsals, tutorials and a concert as well as fun activities such as rock climbing, abseiling and the giant swing.
